WELTSCHMERZ (2014-2018)
Eado Zuckerman's Journey to World-Weariness
Weltschmerz - is a theme-oriented drawing project, creating a personal, emotional, and ideological journey into world-weariness. In the last 4 years, I decided to take the world of my characters and myself on a journey into the past.
15 oil paintings in various sizes (from 70 x 120 cm up to 140 x 180 cm) aim to penetrate the pathological symbiosis between the Jewish existence, the international socialist revolution (and the Soviet Union), and the German national movement (and Third Reich).
Major historical events portray the impact of this phenomenal syndrome on the circumstances in which Jews’ extermination was initiated, established, and finally executed.
Capturing moments of human intimate relations, as if through the lens of a still camera freeze frame, on the surface of each of the paintings is orchestrated a figurative ironic world.
The naive characters (including myself) that are trapped in their own mental reflection, are all taking part in my intensive efforts to interpret the ingredients of human substance in the continuous struggle between gaining pleasure and avoiding pain.
